New Director Announced For The Next Monsterverse Film

After the huge success of “Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire,” which raked in $567 million, fans were shocked to hear that director Adam Wingard is stepping away. Wingard, who helmed the film and its predecessor, is not finishing his MonsterVerse trilogy. Instead, he’s diving into a new horror project with A24 called “Onslaught.”

Legendary, the studio behind the MonsterVerse, quickly responded by announcing that Grant Sputore will direct the next film. Sputore is known for his 2019 sci-fi movie “I Am Mother,” starring Hilary Swank. He now faces the tough job of matching the success of “Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire” and “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which was a hit even during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when cinema faced major challenges.

The new MonsterVerse movie will still benefit from the talent of screenwriter Dave Callaham. Callaham has a strong track record, having worked on films like “Zombieland: Double Tap,” “The Expendables,” “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” He’s also involved in the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” film, featuring Nicolas Galitzine as He-Man.
