Why Jeremy Renner Said No To Coming Back To The Mission: Impossible Franchise

Jeremy Renner, known not just for his role in the Marvel universe but also for his action-packed performances, has had his fair share of adventures beyond the superhero realm. You might remember him briefly stepping into Matt Damon’s shoes in the Jason Bourne series, and he’s been alongside Tom Cruise twice in the Mission: Impossible franchise. But did you know there’s a reason he didn’t return for a third round?

Well, it all boils down to a close call Jeremy had with a life-threatening accident. He spilled the beans during a chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, explaining why he turned down the chance to reprise his role as Agent William Brandt, whom we saw in “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” back in 2011 and “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” in 2015.

“They wanted to whisk me off overseas for a week just to kill off my character,” Jeremy revealed. Understandably, that didn’t sit well with him. “I said no way. They wouldn’t drag me all the way out there just to off my character. If they wanted to give him the boot, they should’ve done it properly.”

He didn’t stop there. Jeremy admitted he gave director Christopher McQuarrie an earful, saying, “You’re not going to pull this on me.” And that was that for William Brandt after “Rogue Nation.” But hey, Jeremy’s not entirely closed off to the idea of making a comeback. In a recent chat with Collider, he hinted that he might be game for another round, depending on what they have in store for his character.

So, will we see him back in action? It’s anyone’s guess, but it sounds like Jeremy might be up for it if they play their cards right.
